FOSS projects focus specifically on preservation for active community use. Our projects are located in some of the poorest neighborhoods in Kansas City, housing programs that provide health and hope to children and families and act as a central element toward sustainable neighborhood renewal. FOSS is currently working with over 30 churches through out Kansas City.

Many congregations that operate in older sacred structures do not have the expertise in-house to manage the long-term care and maintenance required to keep these buildings serviceable.  FOSS fills this void by providing the organizations a variety of support options:

  • An initial site visit and meeting -  The Technical Services Team, composed of architects, engineers, project managers and individuals with church maintenance experience who donate their services, visit the structure and meet with staff while touring the facilities.
  • A comprehensive assessment of building and equipment conditions - Helps organizations identify the issues involved, scope of work anticipated, the professional expertise required and acquaints the organization with any additional assistance that FOSS can provide.  Small projects are often completed by volunteers at no charge.
  • Project management services - For larger, complex projects that require professional assistance but do not require the services of a practicing architect or engineer, FOSS offers project management services to assist organizations in obtaining and evaluating bids and represent the interests of the congregation.
  • Service referrals - FOSS maintains a helpful referral list of more than 100 sources for equipment and services that congregations can utilize.
